First Tri-Annual Drinking Games Extravaganza Part One Redux
Yes, it was quite the extravaganza. It definately took after its name. The premise was this: On Hai Dang street there are four beautiful houses in which teachers reside. It seemed appropriate to have a 'house crawl' of sorts, where each house hosts a drinking game. Games on the list were beirut, flip cup, beer pong, and dice hockey.
The idea was grand, the night was grand, but the idea and the night were not the same. Here's what I mean. We intended to hit 4 houses, have 4 teams, and run exciting games. Unfortunately, those in charge were myself, Adam Stevens, and Alex Stone Loeb. And in fact is was pretty much Alex's baby. So when preperations were needed, little preperation was made. Two of the houses dropped out, two of the teams were non-existent. Tables and ping pong paddles were difficult if not impossible to come across. Our table ended up being nothing but the top of a skid.
So we picked up 20L of beer from a bia hoi, purchasing each litre for 5500 dong, or about 38 american cents. 20 L put us back about 8 dollars. We went to the first house with half the beer, and started on flip cup. We soon realized that we were drinking fast. 6 games of flip cup, and we were done 8 L. We fetched the last 10 L, and moved onto Beirut. Matt and I took on Alex and Stuart first, and finished them off in an overtime battle. then Adam and Liz stepped up, and were turned away by team Beavgle. the losers had there battle, and then the beer was finished.
At the same time we decided to get more beer, our two vietnamese friends showed up. Our co-worker, Mai, wasn't drinking, but her friend Uyen was apparently up for boozin. So Alex and Uyen fetched another 20 L, and the games began again. Teams were Alex, Mai, Uyen and Liz versus myself, Adam, Stu and Matt. In otherwords, they looked lobsided. However, Mai and Uyen were quick learners and could flip the cup with the best of us, and made for a nice battle. The men's team emerged victorious after severral rounds, but it was definately a great game. Then Beirut was played again, with team Beavgle taking on Uyen and Liz. Uyen once again showed her drinking game prowess, and learned quickly. Her and Liz did a grand job and sinking the ping pong balls, but team Beavgle was too much. We once again emerged victorious, and retired for the night undefeated.
With 6 L to go, we chilled on the games, and jsut drank socially. People left as the hour crept, but four of us stayed to finish the beer. By 3 am all 40 L had been drank. I joined Liz for a box of kraft dinner while adam got rice for the late night munchies, and it was home to bed.
The first tri-annual extravaganza was a success, and we can only hope that future events will follow in the tradition.
Cheers.
