Randomness
So, as usual, we got into a random situation on one evening this week, namely Thursday. This was one day after meeting this old guy named Dave, and his fellow Lousiana friend. Dave was a Coon-Ass, and his friend was a Redneck. So the labels go. Anyway, the interesting thing about DAve is that fact that he makes aover $130,000 USD. If I can live well and save $400 a month off $16,000 a year, I have no idea what this guy is doing. So he bought us a couple drinks, and I'm working on making him a good friend :)
Thursday night was the really interesting night. After finishing work at 9:30, we grabbed some food, and headed to Beach Club where they were having a shin-dig. Beach Club is where we go surfing, and they have made us members, so it is our duty to attend their parties. Most of the people were Russian, but there were also a few of us English speakers there, namely Adam and myself, a fellow teacher Heather, our counterpart in most adventures Alex, and his two friends from Thailand, Janelle and Casey. The evening went quite normally for a couple hours, with chatting and a viewing of a surf video. Eventually the crowd weakened, and we were dominating the party. Shortly thereafter, we had glasses of Hennesey in our hands. Thinking it was a gift from the bar, we drank. Then we realized the bottle was in front of an old Russian guy near us at the bar. We began chatting, and we discovered that he was a captain of a ship. Within minutes it was determined that we were going to go to his boat with a bottle of Chivas Regal. So we hopped in the cab and made our way to the boat. It was an oil tanker lodged amongst many other tankers. He led us to the bridge, where we spent the next 4 or 5 hours drinking and scouring the ship for other exciting things. He also showed us the phone on which we could make international phone calls. My mother was as surprised to hear my voice as I was to hear hers. Several other phone calls were made, and after fiddling with some levers, we noticed that the sun was rising. So at about 6 am we made our way home.
I don't really know how we get ourselves into these situations, but I sure do enjoy them.
Thanks to our host Alex.
Good times.
Brandon.
